Mímir presented Icelandic projects at a workshop of the Centre of Excellence for Tourism.

The workshop „Strengthening the use of Icelandic in the workplace“ was packed to the rafters and a good atmosphere prevailed. Centre of Excellence for the Travel Industry A recent event brought together a diverse group of managers, staff and stakeholders from the tourism industry to discuss ways to promote Icelandic in daily work within multicultural workplaces.

Representatives from Mímir Lifelong Learning, María Stefanía, Head of Icelandic and International Cooperation, and Sandra Björk, Project Manager, took part in the workshop and presented Mímir's Icelandic work. These included a collaborative project with Landspítali, where targeted Icelandic language training for staff is being provided, as well as a new development project in Mýrdalshreppur, which is supported by the Development Fund for Immigration and Integration.

Mímis's presentation sparked good discussions and created useful opportunities for conversation with the participants. It was particularly interesting to gain insight into the status of Icelandic within the tourism industry and to discuss how best to support the inclusion of staff in the sector through targeted language use and accessible learning.

The workshop also covered practical ways to promote the use of Icelandic in the workplace, including the implementation of language policies, digital solutions, self-study, and accessible support materials for companies in the tourism industry.

It is clear that there is a strong desire within the industry to strengthen the position of the Icelandic language, both in internal operations and in communication with guests. Such work is a long-term project that requires collaboration and targeted measures, but it is also an opportunity to enhance both professionalism and the experience in Icelandic tourism.
