In the course, you will take your first andsecure steps in learning Icelandic. You will get a good foundation in the language and build the confidence to continue learning it.

We emphasise building a basic vocabulary, comprehension and speaking practice that are useful in everyday life. On the course you will also receive information about the Icelandic labour market.

The course Icelandic and Business Life is tailored for you as a beginner in Icelandic.* The course focuses on building a basic vocabulary for everyday language, in both comprehension and speaking, using a variety of practical methods.  Part of the course includes instruction on Icelandic employment, including the rights and responsibilities of both employers and employees.

The course consists of 42 hours of Icelandic language tuition and 16 hours of business education, for a total of 58 hours.

The Icelandic course is a beginner's course in Icelandic at level A1.1 according to The European Language Framework A variety of teaching materials are used on the course, and active student participation ensures that learning Icelandic is both effective and enjoyable. The course materialsIcelandic for everyone 1 is used in addition to games, cards, supplementary materials and various electronic aids.

The vocational part of the course uses a variety of material from official websites related to the subject.

The teacher speaks Ukrainian.

The course is taught in Ukrainian and Icelandic.

Learn the alphabet, pronunciation and basic vocabulary: You will get a good foundation to continue learning Icelandic.

We focus on speech therapy and you practise simple and practical sentences.

All language skills are practised in the Icelandic course: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Grammar is presented in a simple way in the context of the subject matter.

Icelandic business life and working environment, particularly the rights and duties of employers and employees, are presented.

You will receive education and training in effective communication for partnership and collaboration.

Your skills are assessed at the end of the course and you are given advice on the next steps in your Icelandic studies.

By enrolling on an Icelandic course, students agree to be moved between groups if necessary to ensure the best possible learning outcome.

Each course is tailored to the specific group of students, so the focus may vary between groups to meet your needs.

The course is for people, 18 and over, ...who wish to learn Icelandic, learn about Icelandic business life and improve their communication skills. Participants must be able to read and write in the Latin script.

Terms and Conditions of the Education Fund

Assessment is based on attendance, oral assessments and in-class activities that encourage active participation.

To complete the programme and graduate, it is necessary to achieve 80% attendance.

The course is subsidised by the Education Fund to equalise access and promote learning for adults.

Teaching is conducted in accordance with the curriculum of the Centre for Professional Education, accredited by the Centre for Education and School Services, which ensures quality and reliability. All FA curricula can be accessed here.

A placement test at the start of the course is included in the course fee for those who need it to determine which level is best suited to them for their Icelandic studies. This ensures quality and better results.

Other: For those coming from countries outside the EEA: Part of the conditions set by the Immigration Authority for obtaining indefinite leave to remain in Iceland is to have completed 150 lessons/120 hours of Icelandic language study. It does not matter if different levels are taken or if levels are repeated.
