The course 'Reading and Writing in Icelandic' is tailored for you if you are a beginner in Icelandic, want to learn at a slower pace, and need training in reading and writing the Latin alphabet. The course places an emphasis on learning well. The Icelandic alphabet and pronunciation, as well as learning basic everyday vocabulary and simple sentence structure.
The course uses a variety of materials and different methods to practise all aspects of language learning. These aspects are comprehension, reading, writing and speaking practice, with a focus on Icelandic in daily life and self-empowerment to continue learning the language.
Training in digital skills is part of the course, where you will receive information about and have the opportunity to use practical websites and apps on computers and smartphones. Education about Icelandic society is woven into the course as appropriate for the group.
The teacher speaks Arabic. The course is taught in Icelandic and Arabic.
Reading and writing in Icelandic is a course at the first level of the competency framework for the Icelandic education system and is a beginner's course in Icelandic at the pre-level and at level A1.1 according to The European Language Framework.
The course uses a variety of teaching materials and active student participation to ensure effective and enjoyable learning of Icelandic. The course materials Icelandic for Everyone 1 is used in part, in addition to specialised material for training in pronunciation, reading and writing instruction, visual aids, games, cards, supplementary material and various types of electronic aids, and Words are Adventure – E-book | Centre for Education and School Services.
Each course is adapted to the specific group of students, so the focus may vary between groups to meet your needs.
The course is for people, 20 and over, who wants to learn Icelandic more slowly, has little schooling and/or is not proficient in Latin script.*

Other: For those coming from countries outside the EEA: Part of the conditions set by the Immigration Authority for obtaining indefinite leave to remain in Iceland is to have completed 150 teaching hours/120 hours of Icelandic language study. It does not matter if different levels are taken or if levels are repeated.
