The course consists of learning about customer service in tourism as well as practising basic Icelandic skills in service professions. This is a practical course where you will strengthen your skills and learn to provide outstanding service to a diverse group of customers and deal with challenges that arise. You will also learn job-related Icelandic to be able to communicate in Icelandic. The course is taught in English.

  • Rights and responsibilities at work. You will learn the basic rules of the work environment, as well as an overview of employment rights, duties and work contracts.
  • Basic workplace skills. You will learn good work habits, why work processes matter, time management, and how to work well in a team.
  • Communication and multicultural awareness. You will learn how to communicate clearly and politely with colleagues and customers, and how to understand and respect different cultures.
  • Appearance and customer service. You will learn how a professional appearance and positive attitudes influence customer service.
  • Main tourist attractions in Iceland. You will get an overview of popular places to visit in Iceland and learn how to describe them simply and accurately.
  • Work-related Icelandic – level A1. You will learn basic Icelandic words and phrases useful for work, such as greetings, simple questions, and everyday workplace language.
  • IT skills, useful programs, CV and cover letter. You will learn to use essential computer programmes and create a simple CV and cover letter.

This course is for individuals, aged 18 and over, who want to learn about tourism services in Iceland.

To participate in the programme and to ensure the best possible learning outcomes, students must have English skills equivalent to level A2.1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

 The target group for further education according to the board of The Icelandic Education Fund.

  • Assessment is based on attendance, project work and active participation in the programme.
  • To complete the programme and graduate with a diploma, it is necessary to achieve 80% attendance.

  • The programme is subsidised by the Education Fund to equalise access and promote learning for adults.
  • Course commencement: Please note that a minimum number of participants is required for the course to be held.
