Job analysis - good job profiles increase job quality

With Mímir, companies can get assistance with Analyse tasks for skills and Create job profiles. Well-defined job profiles are useful for companies in many areas, such as recruitment, career development, implementing the equal pay standard, new employee training and performance appraisal. Companies can apply for grants for the project from vocational training funds and assist the Mímir project specialists with the application process.

A job profile includes:

  • A brief definition of the job
  • List of the main tasks of the job
  • A list of the most important competencies for performing the job effectively
  • Description of the competency based on the relevant level of the Icelandic Competency-Based Learning Framework.

Experts at Mími are authorised to carry out job competency analyses using an accredited method implemented in this country by the National Centre for Continuing Education. The method is a useful and effective way to identify the necessary competencies for a job. Personal competencies are not excluded, but are considered one of the most important competency areas for a strong workforce.

About the methodology

The methodology used is based on defining occupations as a whole, and therefore each job profile reflects the job as it is generally practised in the Icelandic labour market. The way the job is carried out varies between different companies.

The analysis will be conducted in three workshops with 10–20 participants from the business community who have extensive knowledge of the job or profession.

The product of the work is a definition of the job and its main tasks, along with a description of the competencies that are most important for the role. The output can be used in the design and development of training for the target group or as a stimulus for career development.
