Care Workshop and Icelandic 3 is a special course for those who wish to work in care and need a solid foundation in Icelandic to be able to carry out their work effectively and professionally.

This is an opportunity for you to learn practical Icelandic that is useful in caregiving roles.

The course consists of a variety of modules aimed at strengthening your Icelandic language skills and providing you with the necessary knowledge and skills for care work in Iceland.

  • Learn Icelandic with a vocational focus: You build a vocabulary that is particularly useful for work in care.
  • A glimpse into the work of care: You will become familiar with the working practices and culture in care work in Iceland, which will increase your understanding and make you a more valuable employee.
  • Take part in creative workshops: The programme places an emphasis on the creative use of music, art education and movement in practice.
  • Go on a field trip: You will undertake a four-day work placement where you will take an active part in daily care work. This is a good opportunity to connect your studies with real-life situations.

The course is for people, Eighteen years old and older, who wants to learn Icelandic and is very interested in working in care.

The target group for further education, as determined by the Board of the Training Fund. Terms and Conditions and Allocation Rules of the Education Fund.

To participate in the programme and to ensure the best possible academic success, students must have completed Icelandic 2 or have A1.2 level skill in Icelandic according to The European Language Framework.

 

  • You need to take a placement test in Icelandic on Mímir before you apply for the course. The test is free of charge and takes place at Höfðabakka 9 on weekdays from 8:00 to 14:30. You must book an appointment for the position test with the project manager ([email protected]).
  • Assessment is based on attendance, coursework and active participation in the course.
  • To complete the programme and graduate, an 80% attendance rate is required.
  • Teaching is conducted according to the curriculum of the Training Centre for the Business Sector, certified by the Centre for Education and School Services, which ensures quality and reliability, as well as Icelandic language tuition at level 3 with a focus on work-related vocabulary. All curricula can be accessed here.
  • The course is subsidised by the Education Fund to equalise access and promote learning for adults.
  • Note that minimum participation is a prerequisite for the course to be held.
