The Social Worker Pathway is a specialised programme for staff in health and social care who wish to progress in their careers and qualify as a social worker. This is your opportunity to create new career opportunities in this field.

Spring term 2027
Each module is taught for four weeks. At the beginning and end of the module, there is a compulsory afternoon session on a weekday. There will also be online workshops where students can meet the tutor.

The Community Care pathway is a specialised course for those working in elderly and disabled care or in home care services. The course places a strong emphasis on combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills and on linking the course to a wide range of roles in health and social care.

The programme focuses on strengthening your professional awareness and self-confidence, as well as providing you with knowledge and understanding of:

  • The importance of professional communication: Cultivate clear and effective communication based on respect.
  • The diversity of human circumstancesDeepen your understanding of the different circumstances in people's lives and the importance of showing people respect and care.
  • The ageing processLearn about the ageing process and the changes that accompany growing old in a broad context.
  • Social servicesGet an overview and knowledge of the main aspects of social services and how it works.

The course takes place in a blended approach of distance and on-site learning with the support of experienced tutors, making it easier for you to balance your studies with family life and work. One module is taught at a time, making the course flexible and accessible.

You take an active part in discussions and project work and receive regular feedback that supports you both personally and professionally in your studies.

The course is for those who work in the care of the elderly and disabled or in home care.

The target group for further education, as determined by the Board of the Training Fund. Terms and Conditions of the Education Fund

The course is intended for individuals who:

  • Have reached the age of 22
  • Have at least three years' experience in a nursery or primary school
  • Hafa lokið 190 klst. starfstengdum námskeiðum

  • Assessment is based on attendance and activity in class, which encourages active participation.
  • To complete the programme and graduate, it is necessary to achieve 80% attendance.
  • At Mími, students complete four of the six terms. To graduate as social workers, they complete the final two terms at a further education college, which guarantees full professional rights.
  • The course is 86 secondary school units.
  • Teaching is conducted in accordance with the curriculum of the Centre for Professional Education, accredited by the Centre for Education and School Services, which ensures quality and reliability. All curricula can be accessed here.
  • Course Delivery: Please note that a minimum number of participants is required for the course to go ahead.
