In Mímis's training courses for staff in healthcare and social services, a strong emphasis is placed on enhancing your personal and professional skills. We offer continuing professional development to empower you to tackle the diverse challenges of your important work.

The courses are specifically designed for those who work in caring for people, whether they are disabled or elderly, and whether the work is carried out in private homes or in institutions.

The professional development courses are held in collaboration with Mímir Continuing Education and the Efling Trade Union and can open up new opportunities to strengthen you in your work.

  • General Competence – Part 1
  • Workplace culture and self-empowerment – Part 1

  • Assistance and care with activities of daily living – Part 1

The course is for those who work in care within the health and social care sector, are over 20 years of age, and have not completed a formal secondary school education.

The course is taught in Icelandic.. To participate in the programme and to ensure the best possible academic success, we recommend that participants have skills at a minimum of. level A2-B1 in Icelandic in accordance with The European Language Framework.

If you are unsure about your Icelandic skills, you can take a free Icelandic placement test at Mími-símenntun before you apply for the course. Further information is available from the project manager.

  • Assessment is based on attendance and activity in class, which encourages active participation.
  • To complete the programme and graduate, it is necessary to achieve 80% attendance.
  • The course is subsidised by the Education Fund to equalise access and promote learning for adults.
  • Teaching is conducted according to a curriculum certified by the Centre for Education and School Services, which ensures quality and reliability. All curricula can be accessed here.
