The course consists of a variety of modules aimed at strengthening your Icelandic language skills and providing you with the necessary knowledge and skills in many aspects of nursery education in Iceland.

• Learn Icelandic with a vocational focus: You build up a vocabulary that is particularly useful in working with children.
• A glimpse into nursery life: You will become familiar with the working practices and culture of nursery education in Iceland, which will increase your understanding and make you a more valuable employee.
• Take part in creative workshops: The programme places an emphasis on the creative use of music, outdoor education and drama in working with children.
• Field study at a nursery school: You will undertake a four-day placement in a nursery school, where you will take an active part in the daily work. This is a good opportunity to connect your studies with real-life situations.

The course is for people, aged 18 and over, who want to learn Icelandic and are very interested in working in a nursery.

To participate in the programme and to ensure the best possible academic success, students must have completed Icelandic 2 or have skill at a level A1.2 in Icelandic according to the European Language Framework. You can see the frame better here.

• You need to take a placement test in Icelandic on Mímir before you apply for the course. The test is free of charge and takes place at Höfðabakka 9 on weekdays from 8:00 to 14:30. You must book an appointment for the practical test with the project manager.
• Assessment is based on attendance, coursework and active participation in the course.
• To complete the programme and graduate, an 80% attendance rate is required.
• Teaching is conducted according to the curriculum of the Training Centre for the Business Sector, certified by the Centre for Education and School Services, which ensures quality and reliability, as well as Icelandic language tuition at level 3 with a focus on work-related vocabulary.
