Mímis Community Interpretation course is a practical course that strengthens your position in the job market and opens doors to new opportunities.
In the community interpreting programme, you will receive education, training and a diverse range of tools to carry out community interpreting in a professional and effective manner. A community interpreter conveys meaning between parties who do not speak the same language without taking a stance on the matter. On the course, you will learn about the role, responsibilities, procedures and challenges of interpreters. In addition, you will receive education about Icelandic society and its main institutions, and you will receive training in analysing controversial issues and interpreting in different situations.
A community interpreter interprets communication between people and public institutions across the social, education and healthcare sectors, in social situations, in daily life, in the workplace, and with organisations where the interests of others are at stake.
The course is for people, aged 18 and over, who have a good knowledge of two or more languages, cultures and customs, wish to work as community interpreters and have the necessary skills to cope with all aspects of the course.
