The Icelandic 4 course is tailored for you who are continuing to learn Icelandic.

The course focuses on building a varied vocabulary for everyday language. You will practise all language skills—reading, writing, comprehension and speaking—using a variety of practical methods.

Icelandic 4 is an intermediate course at level A2.2 according to The European Language Framework. The course uses a variety of teaching materials and active student participation to ensure effective and enjoyable learning of Icelandic. The course materials Icelandic for everyone 4 is used in addition to games, cards, supplementary material and various types of electronic aids. 

 

You continue to learn Icelandic that is useful in daily life and relates to social discourse and your needs.

We place an emphasis on speech training, and you will practise a variety of Icelandic, both in conversation and narration.

You learn and use a variety of techniques that boost your confidence in speaking Icelandic.

All language skills are practised in the Icelandic course: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Grammar is taught and practised in a simple and practical way, in relation to the course material and building on what you have already learnt.

Your skills are assessed at the end of the course and you are given advice on the next steps in your Icelandic studies.

The course is for people, Eighteen years old and older, who wish to learn Icelandic. A prerequisite is Icelandic 1, 2 and 3 (120 hours) or equivalent knowledge.

At level four, Icelandic is used in teaching. Participants must be able to read and write in Latin script.

  • A placement test at the start of the course is included in the course fee for those who need it to determine which level is best suited to them for their Icelandic studies. This ensures quality and better results.
  •  To graduate and receive a certificate, it is necessary to pass 75% attendance on the course.
  • Please note that a minimum number of participants is required for the course to go ahead.
  • The Icelandic courses at Mími are based on the Icelandic language curriculum for foreigners, published by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Other: For those coming from countries outside the EEA: Part of the conditions set by the Immigration Authority for obtaining indefinite leave to remain in Iceland is to have completed 150 lessons/120 hours of Icelandic language study. It does not matter if different levels are taken or if levels are repeated.
