Icelandic in brief is practical short course (6 hours) for those who want to start learning Icelandic. You will learn the alphabet, common words and simple sentences for communication, both at work and in everyday life.

You will gain insight into common practices in Icelandic society and information on ways to continue learning Icelandic.

The course is Intensive course in Icelandic At a beginner level. The course focuses on introducing common vocabulary and practising simple sentences for communication, both in the workplace and in daily life.

An insight is also provided into some of the customs and traditions of Icelandic society.

At the end of the course, students will receive information on ways to continue learning Icelandic.

Icelandic in brief This is a beginner's course at A1.1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The course is taught online. It is taught twice, for three hours each session, for a total of six hours.

The course uses a variety of materials and active student participation to ensure effective and enjoyable learning of Icelandic.

Learn the alphabet and pronunciation
Learn common words and greetings
Learn simple sentences that are useful for work and daily life.
An insight into some customs and traditions in Icelandic society.
Get information on ways to continue learning Icelandic.

The course is for people, 18 and over, ...who wants to learn Icelandic. English is used as a lingua franca in the teaching if necessary. Participants need to be able to read and write in the Latin script and have a basic understanding of English.

To graduate and receive a certificate, it is necessary to achieve a 75% attendance rate on the course.
Please note that a minimum number of participants is required for the course to go ahead.
The Icelandic courses at Mími are based on the Icelandic language curriculum for foreigners, published by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Other: For those coming from countries outside the EEA: Part of the requirements of the Immigration Directorate to obtain indefinite leave to remain in Iceland is to have completed 150 lessons/120 hours of Icelandic language study. It does not matter whether different levels are taken, or the same level is taken more than once.
