In this course, you continue to take confident steps in learning Icelandic, as it is a continuation of the course 'Reading and Writing Icelandic'. You will continue to build a foundation in the language and boost your confidence in using it.

We focus on building a basic vocabulary, comprehension and speaking skills that are useful in daily life.    Study skills, personal development and training in using digital solutions are part of the course, as well as information about the Icelandic labour market.

The course Icelandic, Business and Society is a Level 1 advanced/Level 2 slow-paced course in Icelandic. In this course, the basic vocabulary in Icelandic is continued to be built, with an emphasis on comprehension, reading, speaking, writing and listening. The course material is covered at a slow pace, with an emphasis on repetition through a variety of practical methods. Study skills, personal development and training in the use of digital solutions are part of the course. Part of the course includes education about the Icelandic labour market, including the rights and responsibilities of both employers and employees.

The course is divided into 67 hours of Icelandic language tuition, 16 hours of business education and 12 hours of personal development, totalling 95 hours.

The Icelandic course is an intermediate-level course in Icelandic at level A1.1-A1.2 according to the The European Language Framework A variety of teaching materials are used on the course, and active student participation ensures that learning Icelandic is both effective and enjoyable. The course materialsIcelandic for everyone 1 and 2 are used in part alongside games, cards, supplementary materials and various electronic aids. Specialised materials are also used for training in reading, phonetics and writing.

The vocational part of the course uses a variety of material from official websites related to the subject.

The teacher uses simple English to explain as necessary.

The course is taught in simple English and Icelandic.

Each course is tailored to the specific group of students, so the focus can vary between groups to meet your needs.

You continue to practise the alphabet and clear pronunciation in Icelandic.

You continue to build a good basic vocabulary in Icelandic.

We focus on speech therapy and you practise simple and practical sentences.

All language skills are practised in the Icelandic course: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Grammar is continued to be presented in a simple way in the context of the subject matter.

Icelandic business life and working environment, particularly the rights and duties of employers and employees, are presented.

You will receive education and training in effective communication for partnership and collaboration.

Your skills are assessed at the end of the course and you are given advice on the next steps in your Icelandic studies.

By enrolling on an Icelandic course, students agree to be moved between groups if necessary to ensure the best possible learning outcome.

 

The course is for people, 18 and over, who wants to continue learning Icelandic, learn about Icelandic business life and enhance communication and self-confidence.

Assessment is based on attendance, oral assessments and in-class activities that encourage active participation.

To complete the programme and graduate, it is necessary to achieve 80% attendance.

The course is subsidised by the Education Fund to equalise access and promote learning for adults.

Teaching is conducted in accordance with the curriculum of the Centre for Professional Education, accredited by the Centre for Education and School Services, which ensures quality and reliability. All FA curricula can be accessed here.

A placement test at the start of the course is included in the course fee for those who need it to determine which level is best suited to them for their Icelandic studies. This ensures quality and better results.

Other: For those coming from countries outside the EEA: Part of the conditions set by the Immigration Authority for obtaining indefinite leave to remain in Iceland is to have completed 150 lessons/120 hours of Icelandic language study. It does not matter if different levels are taken or if levels are repeated.
