The course focuses on continuing to build a basic vocabulary for everyday language, in both comprehension and speaking, using a variety of practical methods.

Icelandic 2 is an intermediate course at level A1.2 according to The European Language Framework. The course uses a variety of learning materials and active student participation to ensure effective and enjoyable learning of Icelandic.  The curriculum Icelandic for everyone 2 is used in addition  supplementary material and various electronic resources.

 

Continue to build up your basic vocabulary: You continue to learn Icelandic that is useful in daily life.

We focus on speech practice, and you will practise simple sentences in both conversation and narration.

All language skills are practised in the Icelandic course: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The grammar is continued to be presented in a simple way in relation to the subject matter.

Your skills are assessed at the end of the course and you are given advice on the next steps in your Icelandic studies.

The course is for people, 18 and over, who wants to learn Icelandic. A prerequisite is Icelandic 1 (40 hours) or equivalent knowledge.

At the second stage, Icelandic is used for instruction, but English is used as a lingua franca if necessary. Participants must be able to read and write in Latin script.

A tailored solution for diverse groups: For those who do not have English proficiency, Icelandic 2 Slow-paced, Icelandic, Business and Society are offered (FA curriculum) or courses for specific language groups where the teacher speaks the group's language.

  • Free placement test for registered students: A placement test at the start of the course is included in the course fee for those who need it to determine which level is best suited to them for their Icelandic studies. This ensures quality and better results.
  • Attendance requirement: To graduate and receive a certificate, it is necessary to achieve 75% attendance on the course.
  • Course delivery: Please note that minimum participation is a prerequisite for running the course.
  • Curriculum: Icelandic courses at Mími are based on the Icelandic language curriculum for foreigners, published by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Other: For those coming from countries outside the EEA: Part of the conditions set by the Immigration Authority for obtaining indefinite leave to remain in Iceland is to have completed 150 lessons/120 hours of Icelandic language study. It does not matter if different levels are taken or if levels are repeated.
