
Graduation from the School of Heavy Industry
On 24 January, Mímir, in partnership with Rio Tinto, graduated 12 students from the basic course at the School of Large-Scale Industry.
Mímir manages the programme in partnership with Rio Tinto and the Education Fund, and it is taught on Rio Tinto's premises. Sigríður Droplaug Jónsdóttir is the programme manager for Mímir.
The course is intended for those working in heavy industry where smelting furnaces or electrolysis cells are central to production, and where electrolysis, material processing, casting, refractory lining, transport, research, furnace tending, crushing and screening are among the processes required for production.
The aim of the course is to increase the competence of staff to carry out a variety of tasks in heavy industry, increase workplace safety, strengthen professional and communication skills, increase job satisfaction and make the workplace more attractive, as well as increasing value creation, facilitating the implementation of changes and strengthening the competitive position of heavy industry companies.
