Visit to Vík í Mýrdal – focus group interviews and needs analysis
From 5th–8th May, Sandra Björg Ernudóttir, Project Manager, and María Stefanía Stefánsdóttir, Head of the Icelandic Language Programme at Mímir, visited Vík í Mýrdal as part of a development project on Icelandic language teaching and inclusion in Mýrdalshreppur. The project is funded by the Immigration Development Fund.
During the visit, focus group interviews were conducted with representatives of companies and institutions in the region. The aim of the interviews was to gain a better insight into Icelandic language skills and the use of Icelandic in the workplace, to analyse the main challenges, and to map the needs of staff and managers regarding the status of Icelandic in the workplace.
The visit was part of the project's needs analysis, and its findings will be used to develop a guide and toolkit with practical solutions to support the increased use of Icelandic and inclusion in workplaces.
Mímir thanks everyone who took part for the warm reception and valuable insight into the lives, work and challenges of the people of Mýrdalshreppi.
