„This graduation marks not the end, but a new beginning.“
„Today we stand here proud after a busy and challenging term. For me personally, this journey has been both educational and challenging. Taking 60 credits in one semester is not a task you can complete on your own,“ said Thórir Björgvinsson, a graduating student from Menntastoðir, who gave the speech on behalf of the students at their graduation on 10th June last.
These words so well capture the spirit of the learning and the success it brings, but The Educational Foundations of Mimis Emphasising individualised learning, where the support of teachers, advisers and fellow students plays a key role. Students come from diverse backgrounds and have different experiences, but they share a common desire to improve their situation and open up new opportunities.
In his speech, Thorir emphasised that the success was not only down to individuals but was built on a strong support network within the school. He thanked the teachers in particular for keeping the students on track, even when the pressure became intense:
„You have not only taught us the material, but also helped us to stay focused when the assignments piled up and the pressure became intense. Your patience, encouragement and belief in us made a huge difference.“
The support of advisors and managers was also mentioned as a key factor in the learning experience. In Thóris's opinion, Menntastoðir creates an environment where students are given a genuine opportunity to grow:
„You have created an environment where students have the opportunity to grow, learn and achieve their goals. The support we have felt along the way has been invaluable.“
But what stood out the most, according to Thórir, was the solidarity among the students. Despite their different backgrounds, a strong sense of unity developed where everyone supported one another:
„We came here from different directions. Yet a unique sense of unity formed here. We encouraged each other when our energy was running low.“
This collaboration and empathy is precisely what makes the in-person learning at the Mímis Education Foundation special, in the opinion of many. Students not only gain academic knowledge but also develop social skills and build a network of contacts that can be crucial in the future. Finally, Þórir emphasised that graduation was not an endpoint but the beginning of a new journey:
„This graduation does not mark an end, but a new beginning. We take with us the knowledge, the experience and the friendships.“
Educational foundations have proven to be a springboard for many into employment or further education, as well as strengthening participants' self-confidence and skills. The face-to-face courses at Mímis Education Foundation show how well-structured learning, strong support and a close-knit group can create real opportunities for people to change their lives. For many, it is the first step towards further study, a new career and an improved quality of life.
