
Practical Assessment versus Vocational Studies in Retail and Service
A new course for retail staff will begin in January 2020. The course is a 90-credit, further education programme that combines distance learning with the Verzlunarskóli Íslands and on-the-job training in the companies. The programme is supported by the Training Fund for Trade and Service.
Applicants with relevant work experience in retail and service are offered the opportunity to take a skills assessment with Mími. A skills assessment is a process where a specific methodology is used to evaluate and validate skills, regardless of where they were acquired. Those who undertake a competency assessment and have their skills formally recognised can stop there and use the result for career development. Others, who prefer to do so, can use the competency assessment to gain credit towards the Retail and Service Vocational Programme.
