Large graduation despite challenging study conditions in the spring term
„Knowledge knows no borders. We must constantly adopt new working methods and prepare ourselves for new technology and new customs. During the recently concluded spring term, the activities of Mímir and the school's operations underwent significant changes in a short space of time following the ban on gatherings due to Covid-19,“ said Sólveig Hildur Björnsdóttir, Managing Director of Mímir, when she addressed the students and other attendees at the Mímir graduation ceremony, which took place at a solemn service in Grafarvogskirkja on 19 June, where 104 students graduated.
„In a remarkably short time, distance learning was introduced at Mími for study programmes that were previously taught in person. Then, almost all Icelandic language teaching for foreigners was moved to distance learning, which was a challenging task that we believe, however, was successfully accomplished,“ said Sólveig Hildur, praising the staff, teachers and students for their admirable initiative and resilience in meeting the new demands for digital communication.
„It's never too late to enrol in a course, and it's absolutely true that with Mími, you get more out of it,“ said Steinunn Erna Margeirsdóttir, one of the two graduates who gave a speech at the graduation ceremony. Steinunn Erna graduated from Menntastoðir, but in addition to her, Ágústa Valdís Svansdóttir, a graduate from the Félagsliðabrú programme, also addressed the gathering. Both spoke of the empowerment that comes from pursuing an education as an adult, and how much they had surprised themselves during their studies.
Mímir congratulates all students on their achievement and extends its best wishes for a happy summer and a prosperous future to them and their families.
