Hygiene standards in Mímis premises

Mímis's infection control standards

-based on guidance from the Ministry of Education and Culture on the operation of schools and educational institutions, received on 19 August 2020.

It is important that everyone, including students, teachers, staff and other clients of Mími, familiarises themselves with the criteria and rules published on the website, which are in force at Mími at any given time, and keeps an eye out for any changes that may be made.

General infection control and proximity limits

  • Mímir places a strong emphasis on individual infection prevention, such as maintaining a safe distance, hand washing and sanitising.
  • The 1m rule must be followed in all interactions. Where this is not possible, for example in practical teaching, a face covering must be worn which covers the mouth and nose. In such circumstances, both the teacher and the student should wear a face covering. Ensure the face mask is used correctly.
  • Staff, teachers and students must observe special infection control and prevention measures in the canteens, with disinfection and hand washing.

Hygiene and cleaning

  • Hand sanitiser is available at the entrance, in the student area and on the office corridor.
  • Computer equipment and other shared touchpoints are disinfected between groups of students.
  • It is recommended to use gloves if hand washing before and after use is not possible when many people share the same machines and equipment.
  • Common touchpoints are cleaned and disinfected daily or more often, depending on the circumstances.
  • Posters reminding people of infection control measures are visible in Mímis' premises, both at Höfðabakka and on Öldugata.

Capacity limits and group segregation

  • The maximum number of people in the same space is 100 at any one time.
  • The Mímis quarantine zone is divided into a student area and an office corridor. Staff limit their presence in the student area as much as possible, and teachers, students and visitors do not enter the office corridor (including the toilets). When it is necessary to move between the areas, special attention must be paid to infection control.
  • Care should be taken to ensure that not too many people gather in communal areas, such as the staff room.
  • Visitors to Mímir shall be limited as much as possible.
  • Students may undertake work placements or workplace visits in connection with their studies, provided that public health regulations are followed.

Across all areas, students, teachers and staff should not enter the premises if they:

  • I am in quarantine.
  • Is in isolation (also while awaiting test results).
  • Has been in isolation due to a COVID-19 infection and it has not been 14 days since discharge.
  • Has symptoms (a cold, cough, fever, headache, bone or muscle pain, fatigue).
