She thought she couldn't learn but graduated with a 9.7 average grade.
Graduations have taken place in an unconventional format this year, but no joint graduation ceremony will be held as is customary. Instead, each group has celebrated the milestone together in their own classroom, with nearly 200 students graduating this spring. We certainly miss not having a large graduation ceremony, but these smaller events have been no less celebratory.
Rut Svavarsdóttir gave a speech on behalf of the students in the adult education programme. Rut spoke about how surprised she was at how well the course went. She had always convinced herself that she couldn't learn, but decided to give the course at Mímir a try. She surprised herself and graduated with a 9.7 average grade, self-confidence and new, realistic dreams for the future. Örvar Bessason addressed the students on behalf of the students in the distance learning centres. Örvar was returning to education after 30 years in the workforce. Naturally, he didn't know what to expect, but he quickly found his place in the group, as a great sense of togetherness develops within our student groups. The course went well with the help of the good teachers and staff at Mímir, and Örvar is now aiming to study theology at the University of Iceland.
Attached are photos from some of the graduations. We wholeheartedly congratulate all the students on their achievement and wish them every success for the future.
