Representatives from Mímir at Símenntun's autumn meeting in Vestmannaeyjar

Representatives from Mímir attended the Autumn Meeting of Símenntun – the association of adult education centres in Iceland, which took place on the 19th and 20th of September in the Westman Islands.

The presentations at this autumn meeting were varied and related to including, amongst other things, the use of digital media to reach target audiences, as well as the integration of immigrants into Icelandic society with regard to further education.

Hildur Betty Kristjánsdóttir and Fjóla María Lárusdóttir from the Training Centre for the Business Sector (FA) presented the main findings of the project 'Voices of People with an International Background – Inclusion in Education, work and society, which is managed by FA and the Nordic Network for Adult Learning (NVL) in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Labour Market, and the Ministry of Education and Children's Affairs. The project is part of the ministries' programme for their 2023 chairmanship of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Nichole Leigh Mosty gave a talk on how adult education is the key to the integration of immigrants; she is an expert in the field of immigration and integration. Hallur Jónasson and Sigurður Norðfjörð from Sahara gave a talk on digital media: development and optimisation in the modern advertising world.

Two workshops were then held, which the meeting's attendees split into. One focused on development projects related to the European Language Portfolio, which SÍMEY has worked on in collaboration with Studieskolen, Austurbrú and Mími. Representatives from SÍMEY shed light on the value of the language framework and the opportunities it presents, including in terms of coordination, a new approach to teaching, and improved services for immigrants. The other workshop dealt with marketing. Representatives from MSS – the Centre for Continuing Education in the South West spoke about the centre's procedures regarding marketing. In addition, a representative from the Westfjords Training Centre spoke about Meta for business and how the centre utilises it.

We thank the board of Símennt and the staff of the VISKU adult education centre in Vestmannaeyjar for a good meeting and its organisation.
