Icelandic Language Day celebrated at Mímir

Today, 16th November, is the Day of the Icelandic Language and of course, we at Mímir celebrated the day together.

The aim of the Day of the Icelandic Language is to remind people of the importance of the Icelandic language and to rejoice and celebrate its history, present and future. The day is celebrated on the birthday of Jónas Hallgrímsson, 16 November, every year.

We at Mím decided to celebrate together and burst into a group sing-song, singing both. In Icelandic, you can always find an answer. by Þórarinn Eldjárn and Atli Heimir Sveinsson and the folk song Animal rhymes (rooster, crow, dog, pig) by Pál Vídalín.

Gunnlaugur Bjarnason, an Icelandic teacher at Mímir, led the singing.

This was an exceptionally fun event, and we wish everyone, near and far, a happy day.

Here you can listen to a snippet of the song.
