Nova Foundation paid a visit
Last month, Mímir welcomed four guests from its partner in Poland, the „NOVA Foundation“, who were here to talk about their work in Poland and to learn about the activities of Mímir.
The NOVA Foundation was established in 2009 and formally began its operations in 2014 with the aim of combating the social isolation of older people. The organisation has launched a variety of projects in local community centres, where older people have the opportunity to learn painting, dancing, languages, and more. In addition, the organisation helps refugees to learn the Polish language and culture, as well as training teachers in the care of children with special needs. All these services are completely free of charge for participants, enabling everyone to take part regardless of their financial circumstances.
In Iceland, they familiarised themselves with the activities and courses of Mímir for immigrants and refugees. (Landneminn, Icelandic and Business for Foreigners) and visited the MML (Centre for Language and Literacy) to learn about the 'Bridge Builders' project, which aims to build a bridge between multilingual children, their parents, and staff at the Reykjavík City School and Leisure Department. At the Office of Human Rights and Democracy, they received a presentation on human rights and equality issues in Iceland, and then met the women who organise projects and events at the Association of Senior Citizens of Reykjavík and Surrounding Areas.
Hopefully, we can use the knowledge we have shared with each other in the future and continue our successful collaboration.
