Finnish language teachers visited Mími
On 12th May, staff at Mímir welcomed three teachers who teach Finnish as a second language to international nursing students at Tampere University of Applied Sciences in Finland.
The purpose of the visit was to learn about how language teaching and the integration of foreign nurses is carried out in Iceland, what requirements are placed on Icelandic language proficiency, and how these are implemented within the Icelandic healthcare system.
The meeting discussed common challenges and opportunities in teaching healthcare professionals a new language. The teachers also shared their experience and best practices from Finland. In addition, teaching methods, student support, and the importance of linking language learning to the professional environment from the outset were discussed.
The visit was both educational and constructive. It provided a platform for valuable dialogue between professionals from two countries who face similar challenges in language teaching and professional development within the healthcare sector.
