Educational foundations for those who want to pick up the thread again
Maria Stefanía Stefánsdóttir, a careers and study adviser at Mímir, dropped in for a chat with Kristínar on K100 this morning to discuss the pillars of education at Mímir.
Menntastoðir It is a popular course that allows people to resume their studies after a break, should they wish to pursue further education. Registrations for the Foundation Studies programme are currently being accepted, with both distance and on-campus learning options available. The distance learning course begins on 20 August, while the in-person course starts on 25 August. Please note that the registration deadline is 18 August.
„Menntastoðir is a course for adult learners, 18 and over, and you can think of this as the first step towards starting your education after perhaps dropping out of secondary school, not completing your leaving certificate, and wanting to start learning but not knowing where to begin,“ says María in the interview.
Maria adds that it is not a large group that Mímir takes on, and the aim is to have fewer rather than more students in a class so that students can be well looked after and given good support.
„It's a bit stressful to start a course and take the first steps. Educational institutions offer basic courses or courses at secondary school level. These are courses at the second competency level, which means you're learning Icelandic, maths, English and Danish. They are the courses you need, for example, if you're going into a vocational course, these are the basic courses you have to complete,“ adds María.
Maria also mentions in the interview that the course can be taken either online or in person, and that it can be completed in a single term if one wishes. Upon completion of the Menntastoðir, people can gain access to the university bridges at HR, Keiii and Bifröst.
