Collaboration between Mímis, Helix Health and Vigdísarholt on Icelandic language teaching materials
Mímir received a grant from the Development Fund for Further Education to create Icelandic language materials for staff of foreign origin who work in care and nursing in care homes. Mímis's partners in the project are Helix Health, a technology company in the field of social care, and Vigdísarholt, which runs the care homes Sunnuhlíð, Seltjörn and Skjólgarður.
The course material is based on the Iðunn app, developed by Helix, which is used for real-time recording of care and nursing tasks in care homes. The project's aim is to build upon Mími's extensive experience with work-related Icelandic courses, and to develop and design course material and courses for use in work-related Icelandic courses, based on authentic material from the Iðan app and in collaboration with Vigdísarholt. The course material will help people of foreign origin working in care homes to integrate work-related vocabulary with improved communication skills in Icelandic, with both residents and colleagues. Sólborg and Vanessa, the project managers for the project at Mímir, visited Helix this week and met Þorbjörg, Product Manager at HelixHealth, where there was great satisfaction with the collaboration.
