Are you interested in working with children and young people but need to learn more Icelandic? Then this course is for you!

The School and Leisure Activities Workshop and Icelandic 3 is a special course for those who wish to work with children and need a solid foundation in Icelandic to be able to carry out their work effectively and professionally.

This is an opportunity for you to learn practical Icelandic that will be useful in a job as a teaching assistant or in an after-school club.

The course consists of a variety of modules aimed at strengthening your Icelandic language skills and providing you with the necessary knowledge and skills for many aspects of school and leisure activities in Iceland.

  • Learn Icelandic with a vocational focus: You build a vocabulary that is particularly useful in working with children and young people.
  • Get an insight into school and leisure activities: You will become familiar with the working practices and culture of school and leisure activities in Iceland, which will increase your understanding and make you a more valuable employee.
  • Take part in creative workshops: The programme places an emphasis on a creative approach to working with children and young people, particularly through drama and games.
  • Fieldwork at a youth club: You will undertake a four-day placement in a primary school or a club where you will take an active part in the daily work. This is a good opportunity to connect your studies with real-life situations.

The course is for people aged 18 and over who want to learn Icelandic and are very interested in working as a teaching assistant and/or as a leader at an after-school club.

To participate in the programme and to ensure the best possible academic success, students must have completed Icelandic 2 or have skill at a level A1.2 in Icelandic according to the European Language Framework. You can see the frame better here.

  • You need to take a placement test in Icelandic on Mímir before you apply for the course. The test is free of charge and takes place at Höfðabakka 9 on weekdays from 8:00 to 14:30. You must book an appointment for the practical test with the project manager.
  • Assessment is based on attendance, coursework and active participation in the course.
  • To complete the programme and graduate, an 80% attendance rate is required.
  • Teaching is conducted according to the curriculum of the Training Centre for the Business Sector, certified by the Centre for Education and School Services, which ensures quality and reliability, as well as Icelandic language tuition at level 3 with a focus on work-related vocabulary.
