DISCOVER & EMPOWER – A Mímis workshop for young people looking for work

Mímir recently ran the DISCOVER & EMPOWER workshop, which was aimed at young people looking for work. The aim of the workshop was to strengthen participants' self-awareness and self-confidence, help them identify their own strengths and interests, and build their belief in their own ability to tackle the next steps in their lives and careers.

The workshop took place from 13–15 October at Mímis' premises at Höfðabakka 9. It was taught in a small group, where everyone received personal guidance from Mímis' specialists.

The instructors were Kristín Erla Þráinsdóttir, Head of Study and Career Guidance at Mímir, and Þórunn Grétarsdóttir, Head of Study Programmes and Development at Mímir. Both have extensive experience in counselling, teaching and course development, with a particular focus on empowering people in their job search and strengthening them for the future.

Through a variety of projects and exercises, participants had the opportunity to explore their values, strengths and skills, work on goal-setting and networking, and develop a proactive approach to their job search. The emphasis was on finding solutions and tackling obstacles in a realistic way. Participants then worked on refining their CV and cover letter to increase their prospects in the job market.

Participants were also offered a one-to-one interview with a careers adviser at Mímir, both before and after the workshop, to deepen their work and support their goals.
