
Would you like to become a guide in community education?
In May, a 15-hour course will be taught for those who wish to obtain a teaching qualification in social education for refugees. The course will be taught online in English. Further information about the course is available. here.
It was the Employment Authority, on the initiative of the Ministry of Social Affairs, that was tasked with ensuring the preparation of a comprehensive educational programme in community education. Mímir – símenntun has borne the brunt of producing the course material, and a great deal of work has gone into the courses.
Social education for adult refugees is an important undertaking, and it is therefore crucial that it is carried out successfully. The project is dynamic and constantly evolving.
Extensive consultation was held with the refugee team of the Employment Authority and other stakeholders, who reviewed the material and made comments. Key stakeholders included the Employment Authority, the Red Cross in Iceland, the Social Services Department of Reykjavík City, the Centre for Multiculturalism, the Icelandic Federation of Labour, the Health Service of the Capital Region, the Association of Icelandic Municipalities, Down's Syndrome Association and the Icelandic Human Rights Office. People from the target group and others with a foreign background were also contacted for ideas on the subject.
The course starts on 23 May and ends on 27 May.
