Due to the COVID-19 virus

English version

Response Plan

In light of the public health emergency now declared due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, the public health department of the National Commissioner of Police reiterates the importance of everyone following the guidance of the Director of Public Health. The latest information can always be found on the website of the Directorate of Public Health: www.landlaeknir.is

First and foremost, emphasis is placed on general hygiene and regularly washing hands with soap and water. Hand sanitiser dispensers have been placed in student areas, office areas and at entrances. Everyone is encouraged to use them.

Staff and pupils are asked to regularly check for the latest information on areas designated as high-risk areas. If children or their families travel to these areas, they must self-isolate in accordance with the guidance from the Chief Medical Officer.

Individuals who are experiencing symptoms and may have been exposed to infection, for example due to travel, are urged to call 1700 for guidance. Those who have been in close contact with individuals with a confirmed or probable infection will be quarantined, and the same applies to those who have travelled to specified high-risk areas in recent days.

It is not unlikely that the number of people needing to self-isolate will increase, and it is therefore likely that this could affect school activities. Should teachers need to self-isolate, there may be a change in teaching methods, but we will do our best to maintain school activities as much as possible and keep everyone informed.

If a student or teacher is diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus and/or needs to self-isolate, we ask that Anney Þórunn Þorvaldsdóttir is contacted immediately by email at [email protected].
