Icelandic language learning at Mímir gets a fresh lease of life

For the past two years, Mímir has been undertaking an analytical review of Icelandic language teaching for foreigners. Part of this work included a workshop with stakeholder representatives (including students, teachers, partners and businesses) and an internal review of Mímir's operations. The findings call for changes in focus, which will be implemented this autumn. The aim is always for the teaching to reflect the needs of the students and for the competency criteria to be in accordance with the European Language Portfolio.

Even greater emphasis will be placed on a variety of teaching methods and speech training in all the courses.

„We have listened to the call for a greater and more varied selection of courses and are proud to be able to offer weekend courses, crash courses, slow-paced courses, a book club, work-related Icelandic courses and Icelandic in context.
“with the business community, to name but one,„ says Joanna Dominiczak, Head of the Icelandic Language Programme and International Cooperation at Mímir. “In addition, work is underway to improve support services and teaching advice for teachers."

Mímir has many years of experience teaching Icelandic to foreigners. Since 2003, courses have been held in partnership with companies for their foreign staff with great success. The courses are based on recognised teaching methods that encourage increased communication in Icelandic.

Mímir has received recognition for its educational activities from the Ministry of Education and Culture and holds the EQM+ (European Quality Mark) certification as an accredited training provider.
