Job Shadowing from Spain and Austria
Last week, two guests from Spain and Austria visited Mími as part of the Erasmus „Job Shadowing“ project. The guests were two experienced women, Clara Ramos Iglesias from Spain, the headteacher of del CEPA San Ildefonso – La Granja and DIin and Karin Okonkwo-Klampfer, a project manager at the People's University in Vienna. They presented their work and the activities of the schools they work for, but their main purpose was to familiarise themselves with the operations of Mími.
In a presentation for the staff of Mímis, they told us about their respective countries' public systems for adult education in Spain and Austria. Also, how people who are starting their studies are welcomed, and how they are encouraged to continue their education in the face of life's difficulties and challenges.
During their stay, they observed our work here at Mímir (career and study guidance, project manager's work, bookkeeping, electronic record-keeping, etc.) and also familiarised themselves with Mímir's activities and courses for immigrants and refugees (including the 'Landneminn' programme. Community education for refugees and the 'Icelandic and Business Life for Foreigners' course). They visited the MML (Language and Literacy Centre) to learn about the Bridge Builders project, which aims to build a bridge between multilingual children, their parents, and staff of the School and Leisure Department of the City of Reykjavík.
Hopefully, we can use the knowledge we have shared with each other in the future and continue our successful collaboration.
