Measures in response to the increased number of COVID-19 cases in the community

Dear students, teachers and partners

Once again, we are reminded of how powerful the COVID-19 virus can be. The Mimis Emergency Management Team has already begun work on preparing the measures that the Director of Public Health believes secondary schools will likely need to implement due to the significant increase in COVID-19 infections in the community.

It is assumed that classes at Mímir on Monday will proceed as previously planned, albeit under stricter public health measures. We continue to reserve the right for teaching to become fully digital should the circumstances change further.

The number of people gathering is limited to 200 adults in the same space within the school. People must maintain a distance of at least one metre from each other and wear a face covering if this is not possible.

An effort will be made to ensure that student groups do not all go to break at the same time.

It is recommended that students wear face masks, and everyone must bring their own.

All visitors must sanitise their hands in the school's entrance hall before proceeding further. Regular hand washing and the use of hand sanitiser are encouraged; hand sanitiser is available in every classroom and throughout the student areas.

Specific guidelines for the disinfection of coffee machines, vending machines, technical equipment and high-touch surfaces are detailed on posters.

Give your fellow students and teachers the benefit of the doubt and do not enter Mímis premises if you:

• are in quarantine.

• are in isolation (including while awaiting the results of a test).

• have been in isolation due to a COVID-19 infection and it has not been 14 days since being discharged.

• have symptoms (a cold, cough, fever, headache, bone or muscle pain, fatigue).

The public health guidelines are certainly a significant challenge for school operations and can change at short notice in line with developments. Therefore, everyone needs to pull together so that the school's activities can continue as normal.

We look forward to working together in the coming term.

On behalf of Mimis,

Sólveig Hildur Björnsdóttir
