Minister visits Mími at the start of a new course
Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson, Minister for Social Affairs and the Labour Market, visited Mími today to celebrate the launch of a new course aimed at enhancing the employability of disabled people. The aim was to meet the students and observe how the teaching got underway. Other distinguished guests also paid a visit, including Sara Dögg Svanhildardóttir from Vinnumálastofnun, Helga Gísladóttir from Fjölmennt, and Hildur Betty Kristjánsdóttir from the Fræðslumiðstöð atvinnulífsins, who have been instrumental in the development of the course and the project as a whole.
Teaching according to the new curriculum of the Training Centre for the Business Sector, „Smiðja 1-2,2 – Skills in the Labour Market,“ began this week at Mímir and other centres for continuing education across the country. The course is the result of a project by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Labour Market, in collaboration with Fjölmennt, the Employment Authority and the Training Centre for the Business Sector. The aim of the course is to increase educational and employment opportunities for disabled people and to prepare students for participation in the labour market. Mímir and the centres for continuing education handle the educational part of the project, while Vinnumálastofnun is responsible for the work placement component, which provides students with work experience alongside their studies. The project is part of reforms to the disability benefits system, introduced earlier this year by the Minister for Social Affairs and the Labour Market under the name „All In“.
We wish the students every success on their journey and thank the minister and the representatives of our partners for their visit.
