School term: Autumn 2020

English version below

School term Autumn 2020

The Health Minister has announced changes to the rules on gathering restrictions from 14 August. The new rules include an easing of the distancing restrictions in further and higher education institutions, as well as in adult education centres, where individuals will be permitted to be within 1 metre of each other without wearing face masks. In addition, shared equipment and high-touch surfaces must be disinfected at least once a day, with an emphasis on personal hygiene. The maximum number limit will remain at 100 people.

School activities are proceeding as planned.

At Mími, these rules will be followed in all respects, and every effort will be made to ensure the safety of students, staff and teachers with the preventative measures recommended by the Minister of Health. In light of these criteria, it is anticipated that school activities at Mími will commence at the scheduled time, as was previously planned and announced. School activities and the organisation of learning will be regularly reviewed in light of the situation in society and will take into account the rules set by the Minister of Health at any given time.

Course structure

Mímis's aim is to organise its school activities so that they can continue uninterrupted, despite sudden changes to the Chief Medical Officer's guidelines. This means that teaching at Mími in the autumn of 2020 may, at short notice, become digital if the conditions for learning change.

It is a challenging task to organise school activities in the current uncertain times. The staff at Mímis are working hard to prepare for the students' arrival this autumn, with quality as their guiding principle.

We look forward to working with you this winter and wish you every success this autumn, as always.

Kind regards,

Sólveig Hildur Björnsdóttir

Executive Director of Mímis

Operating the school – autumn term 2020

From 14th August, the Minister of Health has updated the rules regarding restrictions for mass gatherings. This means that the advertised distance between people is now less than before in Upper Secondary Schools, Universities and Long Life Learning Centres. This implies that students can communicate while keeping 1 metre apart, without wearing face masks. Surfaces commonly touched by students and staff will be disinfected daily and individuals are encouraged to wash their hands carefully, using disinfectants. The number of people who can gather will continue to be a maximum of 100.

Operating the school according to plans

At Mímir, the issued rules will be taken seriously to ensure the safety of students, staff members and teachers, using the civil protection measures suggested by the Minister of Health. In light of this, we believe that operations at Mímir will proceed as planned and advertised. Arrangements regarding tuition at Mímir will be updated in accordance with any changes that may be issued by the Minister of Health from now on.

Form of study

Mimir's objective is to organise studies in such a way that they can be continued even if sudden changes arise. This means that tuition at Mimir in the autumn term of 2020 may be changed to e-learning at short notice, should the situation demand it.

It is complicated to organise our operations in these uncertain times. The staff at Mimir will do their best to ensure that the preparation, the welcoming of students and the tuition are of a good quality.

We look forward to working with you this winter and wish you success in the autumn term, as always.

Best regards,

Sólveig Hildur Björnsdóttir
