School activities at Mímir in light of COVID-19
English below
As has been reported in the news, a state of public health emergency has been declared due to COVID-19. Mímir is following the guidance of the public health authorities regarding its response and is preparing the next steps.
School operations in line with the civil contingency alert level
At Mími, we are working hard to ensure that the school's operations can continue as much as possible, even if the authorities decide to announce a temporary school closure and/or a ban on public gatherings. We are operating in accordance with the duties of education providers during a public health emergency, as set out in the national plan of the Director of Public Health and the National Police Commissioner., National plan of the Director of Public Health and the Chief Constable of the National Police but it says, among other things:
- Schools will remain open for as long as possible.
- The aim is for school staff to continue working even if pupils or staff are sent home due to public health measures.
- Organising the role of the teacher in distance learning and homework.
- Record the absences of students and staff due to the relevant illness.
- Consideration should be given to ensuring that students at risk of dropping out are offered the support of a careers adviser where feasible.
Acting in accordance with the response plan
An emergency management team has been appointed in accordance with the guidance of the civil contingencies service, working in line with Mímis's response plan for the influenza pandemic, which is available on the Mímis website., www.mimir.is.
School will continue
Efforts are underway to increasingly utilise telecommunications technology for learning, teaching, guidance and skills assessment to ensure the continuation of educational activities. Teachers and project managers at Mímir will keep their students informed about the situation. Every effort will be made to keep Mímis premises open so that teachers can use the facilities, along with equipment, to communicate with students and/or teach remotely. Study and career guidance, as well as skills recognition assessments, will also be conducted mostly via remote conferencing.
Reporting infection and quarantine
We urge staff, teachers and students to report to Mímis's security guard, Anney Þórunn Þorvaldsdóttir. [email protected], if someone at the school tests positive for COVID-19 and/or needs to self-isolate.
If flu symptoms
Individuals with flu-like symptoms are kindly asked not to visit the Mímis premises due to the risk of infection, and to contact their GP if they experience the flu symptoms described on the website. Chief Medical Officer. Individuals with risk factors for a severe COVID-19 infection are advised to contact a security guard at Mímis.
Emphasis on infection prevention
We would like to remind everyone of the importance of infection prevention and the measures that Mímir has put in place regarding infection prevention and access to them (an increase in hand sanitiser stations, informational posters, and the disinfection of high-touch surfaces in the building). Teachers have also been asked to share and reiterate this information with their students, as well as to prepare them for potential changes to teaching methods; that face-to-face teaching may move to online or self-study.
Questions and suggestions
We encourage everyone to keep a close eye on developments in the news. Should new information emerge that affects school operations, we will post a notice about it on the school's online channels. All enquiries and suggestions should be sent to Mímis's security officer, [email protected]

Offer study counselling, if possible, to students who are in danger of dropping out.
Work according to a reaction plan
An emergency board has been appointed in accordance with the instructions of the Department of Civil Protection. It operates according to Mimir's reaction plan, which was created in response to the Covid-19 epidemic. This plan is accessible on Mimir's website. www.mimir.is
The school continues to operate

Teachers and project managers will inform their students about the situation. We are doing our best to keep our locations open so that teachers can use the accommodation and facilities there, in order to communicate with students and/or teach students at a distance.
