Staff from Mímis attended an Erasmus+ meeting on informal learning and creative learning spaces.

The meeting was part of a joint collaboration under Erasmus+ in Iceland and brought together professionals from different sectors to discuss developments and opportunities in adult education. The event was organised by EPALE, the European portal for adult learning; Euroguidance, which supports the work of careers advisers; and the European Agenda for Adult Learning (EAAL), which concerns government policymaking in the field of adult education.

The aim of the meeting was to shed light on the importance of informal learning and to examine how creative learning spaces can support the participation, engagement and learning of adults. A variety of examples from the work of libraries and educational institutions were presented, where the emphasis is on creating an open, accessible and inspiring learning environment that fosters communication, problem-solving and social participation.

One of the things that particularly caught the attention was how libraries are playing an ever-increasing role as vibrant learning spaces for people of all ages. The meeting discussed the different focuses of libraries, their role in the community, and the importance of their collaboration with various educational providers and adult education centres.

The participation of staff from Mímir in the meeting further opened their eyes to the importance of diverse learning pathways and created greater awareness of the need for an accessible and flexible learning environment for adult learners.
