Vocational training in retail and service has begun.
The vocational programme in retail and service was formally launched at the Icelandic School of Commerce this week. The programme is a collaborative project between Mímir, the Training Centre for the Business Sector, VR, the Retail and Service Association, the Training Fund for Retail and Office Staff, and the Retail School, as well as three retail companies: Samkaup, Lyfju and Húsasmiðjan.
The Centre for Continuing Education in the Business Sector developed the project's competency assessment component for academic subjects and work placements, while Mímir was responsible for its implementation, as well as for student support and services.
The course is a total of 90 credits, 60 in theory and 30 in practical training.
There are 20 students in total, several of whom are studying remotely. The students all share extensive retail experience, and they have had all their credits assessed through the work placement part of the course. An assessment of prior learning for the academic component is now underway.
Representatives of the partners were present when the programme was officially launched. The photos are published with the kind permission of the Director of the Training Centre and the photographer of VR.
