At Mímis's professional development courses, a strong emphasis is placed on strengthening personal and professional skills.   • Art activities with children: Get inspiration and methods to boost children's creativity.
  • Internal work and nursery curriculum: Deepen your understanding of the organisation and objectives of the nursery's work.
  • Icelandic lessons: Get good advice on teaching Icelandic to children.
  • Child development: Learn about the key aspects of children's development to be able to meet their needs even better.
  • Accident prevention: Gain professional and practical knowledge of safety and accident prevention.

A visit to a nursery school is also made to gain valuable insight and learn about their work.

The course is for those who work in nurseries, are over 20 years old and have not completed a formal secondary education.
Please note: In exceptional circumstances, it is permitted to admit staff aged 18-20 to the programme if they are employed full-time.

The target group for further education, as determined by the Board of the Training Fund.

The course is taught in Icelandic. To take part in the course, it is recommended that you have skills in at least. level A2–B1 in Icelandic according to the European Language Framework.

  • Assessment is based on attendance and activity in class, which encourages active participation.
  • To complete the programme and graduate, it is necessary to achieve 80% attendance.
  • The course is subsidised by the Education Fund to equalise access and promote learning for adults.
  • Teaching is conducted according to a curriculum certified by the Centre for Education and School Services, which ensures quality and reliability. All curricula can be accessed here.
