Collaboration with workplaces on training

An increasing number of companies are seeking to partner with Mímir for staff training, as Mímir has many years of experience in this field and meets the quality standards set by the Ministry of Education and Culture for training providers. Mímir also holds the EQM (European Quality Mark) certification for education and training.

Rio Tinto employees, with little formal schooling, are now offered the opportunity to pursue further education at the Stóriðjuskólinn, with the programme managed by Mímir in partnership with the company and the Education Fund. The course is accredited by the National Centre for Education and can be assessed for up to 25 credits at upper secondary school level. Rio Tinto offers its staff the opportunity to attend the course during working hours, as it is in the company's interest both to enhance internal knowledge and to support staff in their pursuit of learning.

The course is aimed at companies where electrolysis cells are a key part of production, and where electrolysis, material processing, casting and lining are among the processes required for manufacturing. The aim of the course is to enhance the competence of staff to carry out a variety of roles in heavy industry, increase safety at work, strengthen professional and communication skills, increase job satisfaction and make the workplace more attractive, as well as increasing value creation, facilitating the implementation of changes and strengthening the competitive position of heavy industry companies. The programme places an emphasis on the learning process, enabling students to enhance their ability to acquire and disseminate information, and to build their self-confidence and life skills.
