Mímir receives Nordplus grant for the development of digital solutions in language learning
Mímir – Lifelong Learning has received a grant from Nordplus Adult the plan for the international cooperation project Play2Work – Gamification for Migrant Language Learning and Employment.
The project is a two-year development project which will be carried out in collaboration with Spring House in Finland, Value Added Tax in Denmark and Adult education for Øvre Romerike in Norway. The aim of the project is to develop and test new gamified and digital solutions to enhance the language learning of adult immigrants and strengthen the link between language learning and the world of work and workplaces.
The project aims to develop new digital solutions for language teaching, utilising gamification, autonomous learning and work-related contexts to increase student engagement, interest and achievement. The aim is to make learning more accessible, flexible, and engaging by connecting language learning with real-life situations, both in professional and everyday life. Alongside this, digital tools, teaching materials and guidance will be developed to support teachers and educators in implementing new and creative teaching methods.
On 8–9 June, the first kick-off meeting of the project was held at Mímir Lifelong Learning. Representatives of the partners from Finland, Denmark and Norway came to Iceland, where the first steps of the project were formulated. The meeting involved planning the project, defining target groups, preparing workshops for teachers and employers, and discussing how best to use gamification and digital technology to support language learning and the participation of immigrants in the labour market.
The collaboration gives Mímir Lifelong Learning the opportunity to further strengthen its development work in the field of Icelandic language teaching, share its experience with Nordic partners, and take part in shaping new methods that can increase student participation, interest and achievement.
The project runs from June 2026 to May 2028 and is funded by the Nordplus Adult programme.
