We spoke to two students on the full-time programme in Educational institutions, Klara and Eirik about their experience and expectations of the course. We also asked what they would say to people who are considering starting a course at Menntastoðir.

Both Klara and Eiríkur learned about the possibility of studying at Menntastoðir through people they trust. Eiríkur heard about the course from family and friends, while Klara learned about it through Virk when she was exploring ways to return to education.

„I've long dreamt of going back to education and needed a foundation for university,“ says Klara. Eiríkur agrees: „I've wanted to further my education for a long time, and Menntastoðir seemed like the best place to start after being out of education for a long time.“

The experience of studying with Menntastoðir is exceptionally good for both of them. Klara describes the course as „absolutely brilliant“ and says the group is close-knit and diverse:

„We are a small and close-knit group of all sorts of people, which makes the learning environment diverse and not overwhelming. The teaching is excellent, and the teachers are friendly and helpful. The school itself is exceptionally welcoming, and there is a great atmosphere.“

Eiríkur echoes this sentiment and specifically mentions the positivity at the school:

„The joy and positivity in the school is remarkable. Everyone is ready to help one another.”

Both describe the support from Menntastoðir as top-notch service. „The support has been very good,“ says Eiríkur. Klara praises both the teacher and the careers adviser:

„Teachers do their utmost to help you with the course material, and there is always a learning adviser on hand to help if anything comes up.“

Klara says that the biggest unexpected discovery was that she discovered her own strength as a good student:

„I was really surprised that I had what it takes to be a good student and get good grades. I was considered a dunce when I was younger.“

After completing their foundation studies, both Eiríkur and Klara are planning to continue with their education. Eiríkur intends to take a university foundation course at HR, and Klara plans to take a university bridge course.

Eirikur: „Just start as soon as possible and don't make too much of a fuss about it.“
Klara: „Do it! I put it off for so long because I was insecure, but I'm 34 and so glad I've started. It's so rewarding to see that you can do it.“
