Competency analysis of the doorkeeping profession
Work on the competency analysis for the job of doorman began last week at Mímir, when the project's steering group met to set the plan. The project is fully funded by Starfsafl and Efling trade union, but the implementation itself is managed by Mímir. The competency analysis of the porter profession is one of six such analyses that Mímir has undertaken in collaboration with Starfsafl and Efling.
Mímir recently entered into a partnership with the City of Reykjavík and the Capital Area Police on the organisation and delivery of courses for doormen, which provides them with police approval to work in this capacity. A skills analysis of the role provides a clearer picture of the work of door supervisors, and Mímir's course will be designed with this in mind.
The contribution of those participating in the steering group's work is crucial to the project. The steering group has, among other things, the task of providing guidance and advice regarding the upcoming skills analysis for the role. The group will be composed of, among others, the Education Manager of Efling and the Managing Director of Starfsafl, as well as representatives from the police and nightclubs. In addition, current door supervisors will take part in the analysis work taking place over the coming weeks.
A job competency analysis involves mapping and defining the competencies an employee needs to possess to succeed in their role. Furthermore, job competency analyses can be used in a variety of ways, such as:
- A framework for the development of curricula and study programmes.
- In planning training and developing educational programmes.
- In the development of career development policies and plans.
- In staff selection and recruitment.
- When drafting job descriptions.
- A benchmark for job performance that can be used in performance appraisals.
