Graduate of the Basic Programme of the School of Heavy Industry

A graduation ceremony from the Stóriðjuskólinn (Industrial School) took place on 14th April. The school is based at the aluminium smelter in Straumsvík, and its students are employees of the smelter. On this occasion, 17 students graduated from the school's basic programme. Hanna Katrín Friðriksson, Minister of Industry, addressed the graduates, as did Rannveig Rist, outgoing CEO Rio Tinto in Iceland, delivered a speech.

The Heavy Industry School has been operating in Straumsvík since 1998, and Mímir has been the educational provider for the school since 2017.

The programme at the School of Heavy Industry is designed to enhance the knowledge, safety awareness and job satisfaction of staff, as well as to increase their opportunities for professional training and career development. The school's aim is also to increase value creation and competitiveness, facilitate the implementation of changes and make the workplace more attractive.
