A visit from Gotland to Mími
In May, we at Mímir received a visit from Careers and study advisers from Gotland in Sweden. The visit was part of an Erasmus+ project, the aim of which is to learn about similar work carried out in other countries and to bring ideas back home. The visitors were particularly interested in how careers and guidance counselling is organised in Iceland and how competence-based assessment is used.
Kristín Erla Þráinsdóttir, Head of Counselling and Recognition of Prior Learning, presented how the counselling service is structured at Mímir and what options are available to adults when they want to strengthen their position in the labour market or return to education. The main areas covered by the guidance service were reviewed, such as study skills, job searching, recognition of prior learning, and professional qualifications.
The visit was a good reminder of the importance of international cooperation in the development of careers guidance.
