Educational materials for social studies for refugees

Mímir is a proud partner of the Employment Authority in the creation of educational material for social studies for refugees. The educational material was named 'The Settler' and is hosted by the Employment Authority. It will be taught on courses that are part of the standardised reception for refugees.
This is a 60-lesson course where students are taught in their mother tongue. When designing the material, the diversity of the language groups was taken into account, and it was published in seven languages. In addition to the written material, there is an audio recording in each respective mother tongue.
Work on the educational material has been ongoing for around two years. During its development, various stakeholders were consulted for review and feedback, as the material is extensive and addresses many societal aspects.
Mímir recently held a preparatory course for teachers who will be delivering social studies to refugees and immigrants on behalf of the Employment Authority. The course covered pedagogy for the educational material. www.landneminn.is In addition, stakeholders presented the needs of the target group from the perspective of their own organisations (The Icelandic Red Cross, the Icelandic Federation of Trade Unions, the Centre for Language and Literacy, and the City of Reykjavík's Refugee Team). The course was very well received and highly praised. A second teaching course will be held shortly at Mími in collaboration with the Employment Authority.
