The role of a shift manager in cafés and fast-food outlets defined

On 29 May, work began on the competency analysis of the job of shift manager for cafés and fast-food outlets when a steering group, composed of experts from the business community, met at Mímir. The project is fully funded by Starfsafl and Efling trade union, but its implementation is managed by Mímir. The competency analysis of the job of shift manager is one of six such analyses that Mímir has undertaken in cooperation with Starfsafl and Efling.

The steering group has, among other things, the role of setting the framework and providing advice regarding the skills analysis for the upcoming work. The steering group is composed of the Training Manager of Efling and the Managing Director of Starfsafl, along with HR managers from Dominos, Ikea, Olís and Te og kaffi.

A job competency analysis involves mapping and defining the competencies an employee needs to possess to succeed in their role. Furthermore, job competency analyses can be used in a variety of ways, such as:

· A basis for the development of course materials and study programmes.

· In planning training and developing educational programmes.

· In the development of career development policies and plans.

· In staff selection and recruitment.

· In the drafting of job descriptions.

· As a benchmark for job performance that can be used in performance appraisals.

Specialists at Mímir are authorised to carry out job competency analyses using an accredited method implemented in Iceland by the National Centre for Vocational Education. The method is therefore a very useful and efficient way to identify the necessary competencies, and personal competencies are not excluded, as they are one of the most important qualities in a strong employee.
