Professional qualifications increase the visibility of skills and knowledge in the workplace.

Mímir has been actively involved in the development and project management of the Professional Qualifications for the Security Industry over the past five years in collaboration with the Training Centre for the Business Sector, the most notable of which is the Professional Qualification for the Business Sector for Retail Management. Earlier this year, work began on implementing an assessment for the Professional Certificate for Security Guards in collaboration with Securitas.

„Professional qualifications mark a turning point when it comes to recognising and formalising the skills of staff and increasing the visibility of knowledge in the workplace. We at Mímir look forward to continuing this project, which will enhance education and professional development in the business community,“ said Sólveig Hildur Björnsdóttir, Managing Director of Mímir.

Annual Meeting of the Centre for the Continuing Education of the Business Sector

Special emphasis was placed on the Vocational Qualifications of the Business Sector at the annual conference of the Training Centre for the Business Sector (FA), which was held on 13 November at the Grand Hotel in collaboration with NVL – the Nordic Network for Adult Learning. Two students in further education, the fifth pillar of the education system, received an award for outstanding achievement, including Sigurður K. Guðmundsson, who completed a vocational qualification in retail and service after an assessment of his prior learning with Mímir, earning a Vocational Certificate. See more here.

Staff from Mímir attended the annual meeting in large numbers, which was held both in person and online.

„We at Mímir are very proud that Sigurður K. Guðmundsson has received the 2024 “Model in Adult Education' award, following a competency-based assessment with us which subsequently awarded him a professional certificate. This once again proves how useful a competency-based assessment can be, and highlights the importance of adults having the opportunity to return to education with the appropriate support, even after a long break from their studies. We sincerely congratulate Sigurður," said Sólveig Hildur Björnsdóttir, Director of Mímir, after the meeting.

At the annual meeting, Finnbjörn A. Hermannsson, President of the ASÍ, reviewed reflections on the assessment of experience and knowledge. Hildur Betty Kristjánsdóttir, Managing Director of FA, spoke about the Professional Certificate, from competence to certification. Mats Johansson, Director General of the Swedish Trade Association, spoke about competency-based qualifications through cooperation between the parties of the labour market. Selma Kristjánsdóttir, Head of Vocational Education at VR and Director of SVS, gave a speech on policy-making in the sector. Jakob Tryggvason, chairman of the Society of Technical Professionals, spoke about the process and implementation of professional qualifications in technical fields. Sara Dögg Svanhildardóttir, a specialist at the Employment Authority, discussed the employment participation of disabled people at the Employment Authority. Then, Björg Bjarnadóttir, Director of the SGS, and Maj-Britt H. Briem, lawyer at the Labour Market Division of the SA, went over the competency-based pay system, a new innovation in collective agreements for the general labour market.
