Assessment of competence in the workplace

Competence-based assessment is the talk of the town these days. Mímir and Nova are joining forces with the Training and Development Centre for the Business Sector to work on enabling NOVA employees to take competence-based assessments in the vocational subject of Retail and Service. Kristín Erla Þráinsdóttir, a careers and study adviser, is participating in the project on behalf of Mímir. In a conversation with Kristín, it emerged that in the competence-based assessment, an individual's skills and abilities are assessed for credits in lieu of taught modules. This allows individuals with work experience and relevant skills to have them assessed for credits, shortening their course of study. The aim of the competence-based assessment is, among other things, for students to increase their knowledge and skills in the workplace, to practise providing customers with excellent service, and to be able to manage store projects in accordance with organisation and plans.
